---------------------
By Nathan Clegg
Everyone knows how time consuming it can be, to change an archived file to
a different format. Every bulletin board system uses a different format. You
download a ZIP file off of one board, but you have to change it to LZH before
you can upload it to a different board. Few and far are the systems that accept
any format. The Changer is a simple program that will convert from any of the
five most popular archiving formats, to any of the others. These indlude ARJ,
ARC, PAK, ZIP, and LZH.
This file is, like all others, distributed "as is." I will NOT be
responsible for any damage to you or your system, in any form. I STORNGLY
suggest that you make a backup of your file before you attempt to convert it, as
the Changer does clean up after itself. The Changer is NOT tested. I repeat:
Use the Changer at your own risk!
The Changer is a very simple file, and can be edited by anyone with a
knowledge of MS-DOS commands. The Changer does have a few requirements:
MS-DOS 3.3 or higher
The following files in a directory called by your PATH statement in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT:
PKZIP.EXE
PKUNZIP.EXE
LHA.EXE
ARJ.EXE
PAK.EXE
YES
CHANGE.BAT
If you do not have MS-DOS 3.3 or higher, but have a less recent version, remove
the "@" at the beginning of the CHANGE.BAT file. Because these files are
located in a directory called by the PATH statement, CHANGE.BAT can be accessed
at ANY prompt.
SYNTAX
CHANGE ext ext filename
The 1st ext is the extension of the present file that you wish to change.
The 2nd ext is the extension that you would like the new file to have.
The filename is the name of the file to be converted, without extension.
IMPORTANT: Omit the extension on the filename! The program WILL NOT
WORK properly if it is NOT ommited!
Type CHANGE on a line by itself with no parameters for a quick reference help.
I hope you use the Changer as much as I have, and that it becomes a
permanent file on your system. There is no fee for its use, nor is it
copyrighted. Feel free to distribute the Changer to your friends, or upload it
to any bulletin board systems. But PLEASE leave all of the original files in
the archive (in whichever archive form you please!)
